雪解けが進む川で静かに暮らしているのがイワナ。
水質が良い水温が一定以下の河川でしか生息できない魚です。
志賀高原では、大沼池の下流にあたる逆さ池周辺や、岩菅山水系の雑魚川（ざこがわ）で見ることができます。
放流は一切せず完全に自然な状態で生息している全国的に見ても非常に貴重なイワナで、産卵・生息域となる雑魚川源流は生息域の保護のために立入禁止になっています。

The iwana is a fish that lives quietly in rivers where snowmelt is progressing. It can only inhabit rivers with good water quality and a constant water temperature below a certain level. In the Shiga Kogen Highlands, it can be seen in areas such as the surroundings of Gyakusen Pond downstream of Onuma Pond and the Zako River in the Iwakura Mountain water system. This iwana is very rare even nationwide and lives completely naturally without any releases. The spawning and habitat areas in the headwaters of the Zako River are off-limits for protection. We would be happy if you could quietly watch over them too.
