今日は志賀高原各所の建物の雪囲い(ゆきがこい)を行っていました。
「雪囲い」とは、冬の間に雪の重みなどで壁や窓が傷まないために行う雪国特有の作業です。
似た言葉で「冬囲い」という言葉がありますが、これは植木などの樹木を雪の重みから守るために行うことを言います。
志賀高原は豪雪地帯に含まれます。本州でも一番乾燥した雪が降る場所なので雪の重みで建物が壊れてしまうことはあまりありませんが、壁やガラスについた雪が低温で凍ってしまうことがありますので建物保護のため雪囲いが必要なんですね。
落葉が進み、11月は冬を待つ季節となります。10月紅葉のにぎやかな時期が過ぎつかの間の静かな時間が訪れます。

October 25th Operations

Today, we carried out Yukigakoi(Snow Protection)for various buildings in Shiga Kogen. “Yukigakoi” is a unique task in snow-prone regions, performed to prevent damage to walls and windows from the weight of snow during the winter. A similar term, “Huyugakoi”(Winter Protection) refers to protecting plants and trees from the weight of snow.

Shiga Kogen is classified as a heavy snowfall area. While it’s one of the driest places on the main island of Japan for snowfall, preventing the freezing of snow on walls and glass due to low temperatures is essential for building preservation.

As the leaves continue to fall, November marks the season of waiting for winter. The vibrant colors of October foliage quickly give way to a brief and tranquil period.
