志賀高原自然保護センターでは、日々の気象状況を記録・収集しています。
今年の降雪量（日々雪が降った高さ）の推移について例年と異なる傾向が続いています。

11・12月の降雪量は平年以下（約半分）、1月は平年並みで、2月は寒気の流入が弱く例年の半分以下の降雪量となりました。

そして2月の最終週から寒気が強く入り始め、3月は数日おきに安定した降雪となっています。

例年3月は晴れが多く、2月までに降った大量の雪がだんだんと少なくなる時期ですが、今年は3月に向けてどんどんと雪が増える逆転現象が起こっています。
今年の3月の雪は湿気を少し含んだいわゆる「積もる」雪が降ることが多かったからかな？

来週からおそらく今季最後となるであろう寒気の流入が予想されています。
現在自然保護センター前の積雪量計は195㎝を指しています。
今年の冬の初めは雪が少なく、私たちが開催しているスノーシューツアーの開催も危ぶまれましたが、ふたを開ければ何とか安全に皆様にお楽しみいただけるような環境が整い胸をなでおろしています。

At the Shiga Kogen Nature Conservation Center, we diligently record and collect daily weather conditions. This year, we’ve observed a departure from typical patterns in the snowfall amounts, or the daily height of snowfall.

During November and December, the snowfall was below average, approximately half of the typical amount. January saw snowfall levels comparable to the yearly average, while February experienced significantly reduced snowfall, falling below half of the usual amount due to weakened cold air influx.

However, starting from the final week of February, we experienced a surge in cold air, resulting in frequent and steady snowfall every few days throughout March. Contrary to the usual trend of decreasing snowfall in March, characterized by mostly clear skies and diminishing snow from previous months, this year has seen a reversal with snow steadily increasing as we progress into March. Perhaps this phenomenon occurred due to the frequent occurrence of slightly moist snow, commonly known as “packing snow.”

Next week, we anticipate another influx of cold air, likely the last of the season. Currently, our snow depth gauge in front of the nature conservation center reads 195cm.

Despite initial concerns about insufficient snowfall at the beginning of winter, jeopardizing the Snowshoe Tours we host, we are relieved to have created an environment conducive to safe and enjoyable experiences for all our guests.

With half of March still ahead of us, our Snowshoe Tours are in full swing! We eagerly await your visit amidst the fluffy snow of Shiga Kogen.
